Things you should know about me:
I used Illustrator at a novice level, i certainly can't create a realistic vector sports car nor can i do most things i have in my mind. However i could use it to do some simple vector art like what you see in my portfolio. Or even duplicated what i did in Inkscape.
Same as Illustrator, i use inkscape to do simple stuff like what you see on my portfolio though i've progress quite a lot since the first art i posted -.-
So now you know my skill level and i simply use what i like to create stuffs.
Now the real deal...my personal opinion on both programs.
Both are good from someone who do vector art as a hobby. Although i started with illustrator, the workflow on inkscape is definitely the same, you just need to know which tool to use and where to find, in this case, the tools work almost the same for illustrator and inkscape. Since i'm not that advance yet, most of illustrator *advance* features have no use for me yet.
Also from personal experience, the reason why i tend to prefer inkscape over illustrator for now is simply because, i had already get used to inkscape due to the time spent on it. I tend to work faster with it than illustrator. (I used to prefer illustrator when i started inkscape)
This tells you that your personal preference is sometimes related to the time spent with a program. I believe if i work in a design company which uses illustrator, i will gradually change my preference back to illustrator!
Still i am really having fun with these 2 programs and knowing that i can adapt to any of them if the situations calls for.
As for now i'm sticking with inkscape and trying to get some good ideas to work on.
